This Web site was designed and is hosted
by Science Service,
a nonprofit organization and publisher of Science
News magazine.
We respect the privacy of children and
do not collect any more personal information (first
name, age, city, and state) than reasonably necessary
to enable them to participate in the activities we offer
at our Web site. We do not have any agreements with
outside organizations to collect personal information
at our site.
Children under the age of 13 should always
get permission from their parents before sending any
information about themselves (such as their names and
e-mail addresses).
The information we collect from children
is used to respond to children's specific requests to
participate in activities such as:
- entering contests.
- voting in polls or otherwise
expressing an opinion.
- submitting artwork and other
material for prizes.
- subscribing to an e-mail newsletter.
If you submit stories, artwork, comments,
or anything else to us that is posted on our site, you
will be identified on our site only by first name, age,
city, and state.
If you send us an e-mail with a question
or comment or enter one of our contests, we will write
back using your e-mail address, but we will not keep
the address or use it again.
If you choose to provide us with personal
information in an e-mail or by filling out a form with
your personal information and submitting it to us through
our Web site, we use that information to respond to
your message. We do not create individual profiles with
the information you provide or give it to any private
organizations.
If you do nothing during your visit but
browse through the Web site, read pages, or download
information, we gather and store certain information
about your visit automatically. This information does
not identify you personally. We automatically collect
and store only the following information about your
visit: Internet domain name and IP address, the type
of browser and operating system used to access our site;
the date and time you access our site; the pages you
visited; and if you linked from to the Science News
for Kids Web site from another Web site, the address
of that site.
We use this information to help us make
our site more useful to visitorsto learn about
the number of visitors to our site and the types of
technology our visitors are using. We do not track or
record information about individuals and their visits.
We provide some links to external or third-party
Web sites. These sites are not part of our Web site
services and are not under our control. We are not responsible
for the content or safety and privacy practices at any
sites linked from our pages.
Although this site is not covered by the Children's
Online Privacy Protection Act (which covers only commercial
sites directed primarily at young children), Science
News for Kids endorses the spirit of that Act and,
hence, has this privacy policy.
